Delilah’s Story

Delilah’s story is as typical as most young Londoners. But only till a certain point. Raised by adoptive parents from the age of 10, she was a brat, a rebel, almost always disgruntled with the way her life was going. And she wanted to fix things. And she wanted to find her twin. At the age of 10, when their parents were killed by a drunken driver, Delilah’s heart had pretty much frozen when she realised that she and her twin were not going to be raised together. But that they would not even be able to meet was something for which she never forgave anyone. She hated everyone and everything, doing exactly what her heart pleased and making her parents’ lives a living hell.

But she was sent to a good school where she did well. Her parents wanted to send her to a good university too, and she did her bit by scoring a scholarship. She wanted to study Anthropology, a subject her parents never understood but did not object to her signing up for it. Delilah kept her parents happy on the surface and seethed underneath.

By the time she was 17, she’d changed two boyfriends and a girlfriend. “Utterly useless,” she would often remark if the topic came up.

When she turned 18, Delilah, who was better called Del, decided that she was totally capable of handling her own life and moved into the university dorms. She’d get a job, she retorted when her parents were absolutely livid by this decision. And a job she did get. Bussing tables and working at a local strip club where she was responsible for ‘outfit check’.

It was this constant restlessness that led Del to do things that someone else would be rather ashamed of. For example, she realised that she had a smooth personality. People were constantly falling for her and she got whatever she wanted. Did she use it all the time? Absolutely so.

But her life was about to be altered drastically and it all began when she stood Theo up on a date. About five days later, he was in front of her. But that’s not who she was looking at. Standing right next to him was her mirror image. For the second life in her life, Del froze, her mouth was dry and she barely managed a whisper, “Danie?”

PRESENT DAY

To Del’s surprise, she and Danie had way more things in common than she’d expected. They were both stunning, conniving and could convince most people of anything. It was this ridiculous bond between the sisters that kept them fairly busy for the next eight years. They were always at the risk of being caught, but somehow they always managed to get out of situations quite easily. Be it stealing a piece or rare art and actually finding a buyer to conning a 60-year-old heiress of her precious necklace, the streets of London kept the twins busy. And then everything changed on a Saturday, just another weekend at brunch. The tall man in a ridiculously wide-brimmed hat and a trenchcoat in the middle of the day had sent them a mysterious note, and rather kindly also paid their bill. The lives of the LilyKnight Twins were about to change.
